Word for Today: Everything

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.” Psalm 150:6

The “conditions” of praise according to God’s Word is this: “everything that has breath.” Scripture did not say praise the Lord only when things are going well or praise the Lord only when you are full, rested, satisfied and happy. Scripture says, “everything that has breath.” You and I are not excluded when God says, “everything” and certainly if you are reading this word you still have “breath” so what are you waiting for? Get your praise on and start praising your Great God!

Our praise of God is not conditional based on our feelings, circumstances or situation. Scripture clearly says, if you have breath, praise the Lord. Why? Because we are praising God for WHO He is and not just for WHAT He does. While yes we thank Him for the work of His hands but we are to constantly have an attitude and posture of praise simply because of WHO He is – His unchanging character.

May God help us today to move from the realm of praising God only when the conditions are “warranted” or “favorable” to a life that lives to praise God period. Scripture commands us to be proactive in our praises and to live in such a way that our life response is consistently and constantly that of praise. Let’s not be reactive in our praises of God but proactive for He is good all the time!

Prayer: Dear Father, I choose to praise you simply because of who you are. I choose to glorify you and give thanks to you for what you have done is already more than enough. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
