Word for Today: Greater Love

“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 118:1

Greater love is required when greater things for the Kingdom of God are to be completed. Talents, gifts, abilities and skills can only take you but so far and the reach can be limited. But love, love extends, transcends and supersedes all things and even the “greatest” of great spiritual gifts.

In the same way it was love that compelled, motivated and inspired God the Father to create for Him a people with whom He can say is His family and later to send His one and only Son Jesus Christ to adopt us back into His family, is love not all that we need?

When sin increases, greater love abounds to extend grace. When we do not see eye to eye, greater love to remind us of the purpose for our gathering. When trials, tragedy and life storms charge our way, greater love to be reminded that God is Sovereign. When spiritual gifts, talents and abilities are inadequate to soften the hardened heart, greater love to melt away the hurt, guarded, and callus heart.

Greater love. That is all this city needs. That is what the people need. Believer, unbeliever, saved, unsaved, all we need is an unfailing love, a love that endures forever. Praise God for He is Love and He is our Unfailing and Unending Love.

Prayer: Dear Father, Love is all that we need. Preachers can preach, books can be written, tips and guidelines can be given but at the end of it all, love is what truly changes people – from the inside out. Help me to love in a greater way as you call me to be your hands and feet. Thank you for you are the Greatest Love and the Ultimate Love which enables me to overflow with your love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
