Word for Today: True Beauty
"…the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." 1 Peter 3:4b
Today's word may appeal more to the ladies but I think our guy readers will find this beneficial as well.
True beauty. Lasting beauty. Unfading beauty. How can it be captured or measured? By a gentle and quiet spirit. How I desire a gentle and quiet spirit!
Being gentle and quiet does not mean you cannot speak up or out, or you have to allow people to walk all over you. Nor does it mean you lack confidence or have to hide in a corner or behind people your entire life. It is actually quite the opposite. A gentle and quiet spirit is one who has an immense amount of God confidence (inner) and is entirely secure in Christ. Because that person is completely fulfilled, satisfied and assure of who she/he is IN Christ, they do not need to "prove" or adorn themselves with outer things to confirm what is already in the inside. A gentle and quiet spirit lives from the inside out, not the outside in.
God is challenging us ladies to desire, pursue and model a gentle and quiet spirit. And for all of us as Disciples of Christ, we are to live our lives from the inside out. We are to live, move and have our being from this height, from our position in Christ. And when we fully live from our position, we live out on display for all to see our glorious inheritance as Co-Heirs of Christ. And that my friend, is enticing, attractive and yes, "true beauty."
Prayer: Thank you sweet Jesus for modeling to me what it is to have a gentle and quiet spirit. You were entirely secure in your position, both Son of Man and 100% God when you walked this earth. Teach me Father to pursue true beauty and in the days to come, produce in me a gentle and quiet spirit. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
