Word for Today: Self-Sufficient

“Hear my prayer O LORD…” Psalm 86:6a

As I was driving to work this morning, it had started to rain just a tad bit. It wasn't raining hard enough where I could appropriately use my windshield wipers on the lowest setting but at the same time it was raining just enough where I still actually needed the windshield wipers a bit here and there. It was kind of annoying at first because the lowest setting was too much because there was not enough rain. It started making that annoying "scratching" sound on the windshield due to friction, in perfect rhythm and motion but still a bit annoying because all I wanted was peace and quiet this morning! But then when I didn't have the windshield wipers on the rain eventually accumulated and it would have been dangerous to keep driving without manually turning on the windshield wipers. Oh man :) Follow me here, I am getting somewhere. God reminded me of the following through a windshield wiper. Praise God!

God is not like man that He grows bored, annoyed or tired of "repetitiveness" when it comes to His children. God does not get easily annoyed or tired when He hears us praying for unmet needs over and over again regardless of how small or big the need may be. God is not annoyed nor does He grow tired when His child is persistent and consistent in pressing in prayer for a particular issue. I believe God pleasures in seeing that child-like unashamed faith that keeps a daughter or son asking, asking, and asking until a response is given.

God is reminding us today to persist in prayer for all things regardless of how big or small the need may appear to be. We cannot afford to not take everything to God because the moment we stop, we stop relying on Him and begin to depend on our own ability and efforts. Danger, Danger, Danger! The moment we stop praying for every detail and area that concerns our life and the lives of our love ones, is the day we take a dangerous turn towards self-reliance. We have a tendency to do this when our heads tell us we don't need to pray for those "small" things and soon enough those "small" things begin to take on a life of its' own and we find ourselves in trouble and far from God in prayer. We are not capable of being self-sufficient therefore there is nothing too big or too small that we should risk attempting to handle and resolve on our own.

Praise God for He is an All-Consuming and Self-Sufficient God in whom we have placed our trust and our life. God is challenging His people today to stop and begin to take inventory of what areas we have dangerously been attempting to live in "self-sufficiency." May the Holy Spirit reveal those areas to us so that we may return and submit to the One who is all-knowing and all-powerful, Our Savior and King. There is nothing too big, too small, too silly embarrassing or too "bad" that we cannot give to our Daddy. He receives it all because He receives us as we are. Hallelugia!

Prayer: Thank you Father for you are a God that does not rely upon any man for your existence. Help me today to live a life completely surrender and completely relying on you and you alone. Reveal to me where I am still attempting to be self-sufficient that I may release and lay at your feet. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
