Ryan & Rita
On the way home from UH last night, God ordained for me & Annie to be in the elevator at the same time as Ryan (a student at UH). We made small talk in the elevator but it became "big" talk when God gave us the priviledge of praying life and hope into his life and his mother's life, Rita.
He was heading back home that night to Austin because he had just received word that his mother had another episode with her battle with sickle cell. He just got back on campus this past Sat. and is now making this trek back home to tend to his family. My heart was filled with compassion.
We didn't ask Ryan if he was a believer or if he knew God, we were simply instructed by the Lord to pray for his travels and his mother's healing. He agreed without any hesitation. Praise the Lord for I know that the spirit of God is at work in his life even as I type this. Whether he is a committed believer, a wayward son of the Father, or someone who has never even considered Jesus as the Way, Truth and Life - I know last night will forever change him - by the Spirit and Power of God. As we parted our separate ways, all he said was "thanks for caring."
How beautiful it is to know that the Father sees and knows the unspoken things in our lives and He tends and cares for every detail. What an awesome Daddy!
Annie and I were both so humbled that God would allow us to be a part of speaking life and hope into someones life. We giggled and laughed and were on "cloud nine." But praise the Lord He reminded me quickly that this is beginning - not the end. Not a "trophy" to which I can put away and admire but the rememberance stone to keep pushing on. I was also reminded that things like praying for strangers, etc. should be the norme. We should be praying and laying hands on every street corner - everywhere we go.
May God help us to bring what is right and normal back to this world - starting with me and starting in the city of Houston! Glory be to God.
We encouraged one another to say a prayer for Ryan and his mother before heading to bed. May God protect and water the seed that was planted by faith and love for Christ.
