Word for Today: Treasure (Tues. 3/3)

“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there you heart will be also.” Matthew 6:20-21

In a moment’s notice, how readily are you to obey if God were to instruct you to “go?” How attached have you become to the things around you that if God were to say “go” you would hesitant because of the earthy treasures you have piled and stored up?

Now of course God is a good God. Surely He would never call or send us out without first preparing our hearts and the circumstances around us. The Lord wants us to go out in blessings. But the questions above are meant to stir your heart towards self-reflection. Have you grown attached and comfortable to your earthly and material possessions’ that if God were to speak, could you give it away or give it up? Does God intend for us to live poor and never enjoy nice things? Absolutely not. But in all things, may it bring Him the utmost glory and may it bear eternal fruit for the Kingdom of God.

We live in a affluent society. God has abundantly blessed us out of His goodness with many “wants” and things beyond the bare necessity of life. He gives so we can have but not with the intention of those things having us. Even during difficult economic times as today, we are still far better off than many in other countries will ever be. I believe God is challenging His people to take inventory of our heart. Where is your treasure? Do you constantly have an eternal perspective or somewhere along the way, you have bought into the temporary things that will soon fade away?

Where ever you are today, praise God for His mercy and gentle reminders. It’s never too late to begin sowing into the things of eternity. It will forever hold its’ value long after this earth passes away.

Prayer: Dear Father, I thank you for you are a generous God. Thank you for being my provider and giving me abundantly more than I could ever ask for and need. Help me to continually balance and have an eternal perspective in everything that I do. May it bring you glory and sow seeds into the Kingdom of Heaven. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
