Word for Today: Change (11/21)

"I the Lord do not change. So you, O descendents of Jacob, are not destroyed." Malachi 3:1
How quickly things can change from one day to the next. Just yesterday in Houston we were enjoying a high of 75 degrees and if I am not mistaken, today's high should only reach about the mid 50's! Trends, styles, the economy and even people around us can change but you can count on one thing that will always remain, God. Halleluiah!

We live in a world today where things are constantly changing. Whether it is for the better or worst, expected or unexpected, change is inevitable. We cannot control the changes around us but what we can control is how we allow those changes to affect us. The issue we face is not whether change will happen, the issue is what do we do when it does happen. Today I believe God is encouraging His people to be on guard and to keep a proper eternal perspective of all things and in all things so that our souls may not grow weary. We must constantly check ourselves to make sure that the current of changes do not shift us to a place where God never intended.

So what do we do when external things change and shift? And even more importantly, what do we do when things internal – within us seem to be turning flips and cartwheels? We hold onto the Constant and the never changing Truth – Our Rock of Salvation, Our Savior and the Unshakeable Word of God. God's Word never changes and He is the Ancient of Days – the same yesterday, today, and forever!

If you find yourself today in a season of uncomfortable change, take heart for the unchanging God has a purpose and the Almighty is comforting you Himself! You can trust and count on Him, may your soul not grow weary in the wait. And if you find yourself in a place where God is bringing about a change in your life and by His grace He has allowed you to see a glimpse of the purpose of it all, give thanks for His generosity. Regardless of your details, He is trustworthy.

People may change their mind about you and situations and circumstances can quickly go one way to another, but we hope in the truth today that God never changes. He never changes His mind on us and we can count on His unchanging love and character. His thoughts are always good and kind towards us! Wherever you find yourself, the resounding truth of God's unchanging love and character is what carries us through. Take heart, our God is an Unchanging God!!
