Word for Today: Static

Word for Today: Static

God taught me a spiritual lesson when a co-worker worked intently on tuning her radio to a Christian radio station this week. The only station she could get inside of our building was secular music and God spoke to her heart and reminded her that those types of music does not build her spirit. My co-worker was then determined to find a Christian radio station because the mood and atmosphere of our work environment depended on the sounds of Heaven; our sanity was dependent on finding those godly sounds.

Finally after much tuning and static, a lot of static, she found it! We were so thankful to allow the sweet aroma of God’s praise fill our desperate and needy work environment. The station was playing loud and clear for a good while and then all of a sudden the dreadful….ccczzzzccczzz…..static, we lost reception. The music was coming in and out but all we could hear mostly was the sound of static, annoying static. We could hear bits and pieces of the songs but it was such a teaser!

My co-worker then went back to diligently tuning back and forth, moving her radio around to different areas on her desk in an attempt to recapture that clear sound again. Finally after a couple of minutes or so, she heard noises and realized there was someone on the other side of her cubicle working on a computer who was not previously there. She then began to call out to the other side to see if someone was indeed over there. The person identified himself and she quickly replied back, “Tony, what you are doing? You are interfering with my reception, I can’t get my music. Please leave.” As soon as he left, the reception came back, loud and clear. My co-worker is hilarious. I chuckled and God brought these words to mind:

“Don’t let anything or anyone interfere or mess you up with your sanctification (the process of being made like Christ). Remove the interferences and the distractions that are blocking and hindering your God “reception.”

I could teach an entire series from the comical situation above but today I want us to draw our attention to this one simple question. What interference(s) is blocking you from hearing God clearly today?

Some of you may find yourself in one or more of these situations at one time or another:

Your “radio” station only hears “static,”
Your “radio” station hears fragments of the songs clearly ever so often in between periods of static,
Your “radio” station hears a good equal mix of static and song at the same time or, maybe
Your radio station is tuned to a totally different radio station other than God

Whatever your reception, there is something that is blocking and preventing you from FULLY hearing what God is speaking.

If you find yourself in one of the scenarios above, there is hope! Simply ask God to reveal to you the root and cause of the interference that is causing the static.

Once He has revealed the interference (sin, fear, disobedience, laziness, complacency, pride, etc.), in the Name of Jesus you can speak to the obstacle, interference, blockage of the reception and command it to move so you can hear from God clearly. Praise the Lord! We praise God that He has made every authority available to us IN the Name of Jesus. As a son/daughter of God, we have the powerful name of Jesus!

After you have identified the interference (repented), spoken to the interference, now ask God to tune you so you can receive His reception loud and clear. Simple as that.

Now for those who may find yourself well “in-tune” and hearing God just fine, your charge is the following:

Give God glory,
Crank your sounds way up loud so all around can hear, and
Continue to make sure you check your reception to make sure it is always in tune.

Finally, whatever (good or bad, godly or worldly) that may serve as a distraction, interference or blockage that would cause you to take your eyes off of Jesus, remove it.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for being a Father that longs for His children to hear Him loud and clear. God I ask that you would reveal to me the things that are or may be hindering and blocking me from hearing you more clearly and being in tune with your heart and with what you are doing. Help me to tune my life to yours. In Jesus Name, Amen.
