Word for Today: In Debt
"Don't run up debts, except for the huge debt of love you owe each other. When you love others, you complete what the law has been after all along." Romans 13:8 (The Message)
With Christmas right around the corner, we hear a lot of talk about careful spending to avoid debt. There are some people who are cutting back on their spending and then there are those who are not even spending at all for fear of the current state of our economy. Careful thought and consideration is appropriate when deciding how to spend your hard earned money or the hard earned money of your parents. Of course no one wants to be in debt, financial debt that is but I do believe God is challenging His people today to get in debt. :)
God wants us to dig a big honking debt so big and so massive that we are totally submerged in it – the debt of love we owe to one another. God wants us to be so in over our heads in debt of love to one another that we live the rest of our life paying off that debt – that debt of loving people and loving people and loving people. Halleluiah!
God has given us the greatest love – His love found through a personal relationship with Him. He wants us to give that love away and to spend that love lavishly – don't be frugal, be a "baller" when it comes to His love.
So let me ask you, how have you been loving lately? Are you in debt to your eyeballs because you have loved so many people and still have more to love or have you been stingy and choosey with whom you have been giving your love out to? Praise God for wherever He finds you today, know that His unfailing love meets you and His love WILL enable you to love those around you.
So this Christmas season, I say let's go all out and get into a huge debt…by the way we choose to love and give love. Let's get in debt! :)
