The Committed

Just a had an unedited thought but wanted to share the progress of it.
I had a chance to sit down with a brother yesterday and the topic on the need for young men in our church to "step up" was discussed. I was asked my take on what it is to "step up".
The surface answer would be to find an area that you are good at and take on a more visible role in the program(s). I have a slightly different take. Some people are concerned with where they fit in the scheme of VBC, so they continue to stay uncommitted because they are not sure if VBC is the church for them. Maybe they base their commitment on their ability to work in a setting or maybe even "what can I get from this fellowship".
I think to "step up" means to make a decision about where you will put your time and energy and make a decision to be counted. God's Church does not need more superstars or people who will only serve or care for things that they care for. What we need are people who can be counted on regardless if the task at hand is difficult or enjoyable.
Find where you need to be. Ask God to break your heart for what breaks His. Ask God where He is at work and join Him instead of asking God to give you work that you will enjoy.
