New + Old

Today was a good day.

We had a great Sunday Worship. The highlight of my day is teaching Sunday School. I have the incredible privilege of teaching the children ministry. We have a blended classroom, students ranging from a kindergartner to a 5th grader. Yes, that's a wide range but in God's grace, it works. Don't ask me how, but it does. God is gracious, the class runs very smooth. We are quickly outgrowing our space. What a great problem to have.

I really enjoy teaching children. It is refreshing and truly a breath of fresh air. They are so eager to learn. They are hungry for God's Word. They easily and readily believe and accept the Scriptures. Truly, what child-like faith.

I took on the Children Ministry the beginning of this year. I agreed to fill in the gap to get a ministry and curriculum in place (praise God for Lifeway!) I am humbled and indebted to God for how far along He has developed and brought the ministry. It's amazing to see young children fall in love with Jesus and truly receive and understand Him as God.

One of the greatest reminders the children has given me is 'simple' but yet profound for those who have walked with God for some years and can sometimes forget what that first drop of grace felt like. The reminder is this, that loving God, worshiping God and serving God is indeed an honor and privilege.

Things that we as adults can take for granted or gloss over because we have had so many years of experiencing it. It is sad to say but it is true, some things have 'lost' it's power and newness because we have grown accustomed to being with that we don't remember what it was like to be without. For example, things like partaking of the Lord's Supper. Or the excitement and anticipation of being baptized.

The students have been diligently studying the Scriptures and learning all that they can. They cannot wait for the day they get to be baptized! And I absolutely cannot wait to witness that day of declaration and celebration with them.

Today was a good day. Reminded to make the 'old, new' by simply choosing to have child-like faith with new excitement with every encounter.
